With a state budget of 6.7 billion dollars, and a drug addiction cost of 7.2 billion dollars, Oklahoma is in need of help. The direct cost incurred by the state is 1.8 billion, with the rest attributed to loss of productivity and extra expenses. This is the same thing that often occurs to an individual who is a drug addict. Many will spend more money than they make, and so they go broke. This is now occurring on a state level. Last year, around 240,000 people abused drugs in Oklahoma, which equals 8% of the population. According to allgov.com, this percentage leads the nation. Something must be done about this problem!

Again, drugs are a serious problem in Oklahoma, as well as all over the country. They ruin lives, break apart families, and impact all areas of society. Currently, hydrocodone, oxycodone, methamphetamines, and alcohol are at the top of the list. Prescription drugs in particular are becoming more widespread in use. These drugs can be deceptive, because they are legal. However, the addiction is the same as the illegal street drugs, and many times the withdrawal, or “detox”, is worse.

There are numerous options for treatment out there, for those who want to get help. I know several people who have had great luck with long term, residential treatment programs in Oklahoma. The ones that use an alternative to the 12 step method, with a high success rate, and drug-free treatment are the best.

Instead of the common 28-day program, these types of programs are open ended treatment programs. The length of stay averages three to four months, and many people need a longer time period than one month. This program also addresses the body, instead of only focusing on the mind.

If you know someone in Oklahoma who is in need of help call 888-816-0667 for a referral to an Oklahoma drug rehab program.
