Methamphetamine Addiction Treatment

Methamphetamine (meth) is the most used drug in Oklahoma per the White House Drug Policy Statistics.

“Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant drug that is similar in structure to amphetamine. Due to its high potential for abuse, methamphetamine is classified as a Schedule II drug and is available only through a prescription that cannot be refilled. Although methamphetamine can be prescribed by a doctor, its medical uses are limited, and the doses that are prescribed are much lower than those typically abused. Most of the methamphetamine abused in this country comes from foreign or domestic superlabs, although it can also be made in small, illegal laboratories, where its production endangers the people in the labs, neighbors, and the environment.” (From NIDA Web-site)

Tulsa has become more and more ravaged by this type of drug abuse and the drug seems to be very readily available. There are efforts to make the main ingredient of meth less available by not allowing the over the counter medications that can be used to be sold without registration. Despite these efforts many continue to become addicted to meth in Tulsa and need methamphetamine addiction treatment.

Many young persons are arrested for use and possession meth and end up in the jails. There are unfortunately not enough treatment beds available in the Tulsa area to handle the demand for treatment for meth addiction. Courts often demand treatment, but the addict is often left unable to find a bed and therefore stays in jail or is back out in the street. The longer this type of addiction goes untreated the more damage to the person. The addict will start to have physical symptoms and feel weak causing them to crave more of the drug. Emotionally they drain themselves and those around them and in addition to all of that they very often end up in Legal situations so that even if they do manage to quit doing the drug, they then have an array of other problems making it seem easier to just forget it and go back and do more drugs.

Effective prevention and drug addiction treatment is the best solution. If there were more drug education in Tulsa, specifically directed towards youth, the dire need for treatment beds would be reduced. Many youth really do not know what they are getting into when they try meth and often they do not wake up to the fact that they are addicted until their lives have been ruined in many ways as discussed above. If they really knew what is going to happen to them and their families with abuse of meth, many young people would probably refrain from using.

If someone has become addicted, it is vital to seek treatment as soon as possible. There are solutions and someone can put his or her life back together.
